Our St Joseph
God always provides, and does so exactly, and more than exactly, He provides abundantly.
This is our daily experience, that having nothing gives God the opportunity to provide everything. He really is a good Father, caring for all our needs, looking out for the poor.
Taking on this huge convent wasn’t something we entered into lightly, we weren’t sure if we could or should. However, previous to our coming to Lynton, we had been introduced to someone who was to become an essential part of our life here: we call him our very own “St Joseph”!
With all our questions and concerns, about roofs, insulation, windows, heating, plumbing, gutters, and the list goes on, we needed someone we could rely on for help and advice. We needed someone who could tell us whether it was crazy to take on this project or do-able.
Our wise “St Joseph” was here to visit the convent with us, and to reassure us of the quality of the construction of this building, and to check out all the pipes, wires, roofs, boilers etc. With our friend’s advice we accepted to take on the challenge of this place, with a desire to restore it for the glory of God, so that once again it would be an oasis of contemplative life.
The abundance of Gods goodness is also seen in the abundant goodness of those who help us, going beyond the necessary and giving so much time and energy to help us be able to live out our contemplative life here.
There is nothing that discourages our dear “St Joseph”! Partition walls have come down, roofs have been insulated, old stair lifts removed, toilets fixed, gutters cleared, heavy furniture moved, tools donated, meetings attended (and translated for us!) and more than we can remember.
So much to be grateful for. “It’s my way of praying.”
