An army of helpers
It is always surprising when God answers even the unspoken desires of our hearts.
Earlier this year, looking out upon a huge, untamed garden, my heart sank at the prospect of ever getting it into shape. “This is too big for me,” I thought, and looking up to Jesus at the top of the garden, I sighed, “Lord, we need an army!”
From then on, rather than dispair, I began to pray with faith that the Lord would indeed send an army of helpers. After all, I said to myself, this is His convent, not mine, His project not mine, I am just one of His many instruments and can only do so much. So I believed He would send them and how He did!
Providentially, our deacon at Mass just happens to be the chaplain for the 24 Commando base at Chivenor, not far from here, in North Devon terms. He asked if they would come to our aid, and they agreed! The 15th sept saw around 20 young soldiers turn up for a day of hard labour, as they set about clearing our garden of all the felled trees which had been left scattered over paths and flower beds.
They accomplished in a day what we couldn’t have done in a year! What a gift, what an answer to prayer! We prayed for an army of helpers and the Commandos came! We are extremely grateful for their help and hold them in our prayers.
